Developing Pagero e-invoice

Mr. Thom Birkeland is responsible for Pagero’s R&D team who has developed a new, ERP independent, world class and scalable platform – Pagero Online including the service Pagero e-invoice – handling electronic data interchange between companies. The goal was to create an easy, flexible and cost efficient way of handling large volumes of format conversions (originating from very many companies), document routing, intercompany netting-, external print- and e-archive services in a fully fledged solution based on SaaS (Software as a Service).

Currently Pagero e-invoice is an integrated part of several ERP vendors, e.g. IFS globally and Jeeves. Also, Itella (the Finnish Post) cooperates with Pagero enabling small to medium sized companies to send e-invoices to Swedish government agencies. Itella was awarded, by ESV (Swedish National Financial Management Authority), to provide the Swedish government bodies with an Electronic Processing of Invoices System. Furthermore, Pagero and Swedbank have developed a direct communication bridge connecting Pagero’s platform with Swedbank’s backbone, to accommodate true e-invoicing (B2B).

The distinguishing factor between Pagero and traditional EDI/VAN-solutions are several. One is that the installation and go live process is not more complicated than downloading a thin client from Pagero and installing it. If the ERP-system is not able to send XML or EDI files they simply use Pagero Virtual Printer (printer diver) where the print file (postscript stream) is sent to the Pagero Network (Pagero Online), interpreted, converted into e.g. XML or EDI file and sent to the invoice receiver. Also, Pagero Online is connected to several EDI/VAN networks enabling communication with already established EDI connected companies. Pagero’s solution is a ”many-to-many” architecture in contrast to current ”point-to-point” more expensive project oriented solutions.
