Mandatory e-invoicing for all transactions from 1 January 2019
Italy, with its VAT gap of EUR 35 billion, has implemented multiple measures aimed at both preventing tax evasion and increasing VAT collection. Since June 2014, e-invoicing has been mandatory for suppliers of public entities (B2G e-invoicing), and, since January 2017, it has been optional for B2B transactions using the Italian governmental e-invoicing platform Sistema di Interscambio (SDI). From January 1, 2019, Italy will become the first country in the EU with mandatory e-invoicing for all B2B and B2C transactions as well.
