New Zealand mandates B2G e-invoicing for large suppliers from 2027
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) reported that the Cabinet approved fifth edition of the Government Procurement Rules has been published. These rules require agencies that send or receive more than 2,000 domestic trade invoices annually to have e-invoice capabilities by January 1, 2026, and mandate large suppliers to submit e-invoices from January 1, 2027.
Proposed expansion of e-invoicing rules for B2G transactions
Rule 44 of the New Zealand Government Procurement Rules proposes that public agencies handling over 2,000 domestic trade invoices annually must be equipped to process e-invoices and require large suppliers to submit them. If adopted, this requirement will take effect by January 1, 2026.
