In 2021 the Japan Digital Agency (JDA) announced that a new input tax credit method, the Qualified Invoice System, will be in place from October 2023. Taxpayers who wish to claim Japanese Consumption Tax (JCT) credit must retain qualified.
In an effort by the JDA to accelerate the digitalization of Japanese businesses, streamline processes and support greener business practices through this initiative, e-invoicing has been strongly recommended as a format to receive JCT.
