India to implement PEPPOL e-invoicing mandate

Following the news about India’s decision to move towards mandatory e-invoicing, the Indian GST Council decided in June that they will be implementing PEPPOL as the countrywide Standard.

A newly drafted e-invoice standard

The e-invoice standard has been drafted by GSTN in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Adoption of the PEPPOL framework will not only reduce tax fraud in India but it will also prevent human error while enhancing automation and machine readability.

Expected developments

The GST council is still at the early stages of adopting PEPPOL, and it is difficult to foresee any associated implications at this point in time. However, as a PEPPOL access point, Pagero will continue to follow developments and support customers as the mandate is enforced.
